D. Moldovan Language Laws

08/31/1989

The Supreme Soviet of the Moldovan Soviet Socialist Republic established Moldovan as the official language, replacing the de facto Russian language decreed in the Soviet Union. These laws would convert the Moldovan language’s use of the Cyrillic script to the Latin alphabet used in Romanian, furthering the Romanianization of the entire country.
